Compiled in 1952, this booklet dedicated to Bolivar County Homemakers includes everything from how To Cook A Duck to Blackberry Wine. There are lots of chapters on sweets... Cookies, Cakes & Icings, Pies & Puddings, Frozen Desserts and Candies. When is the last time you saw a recipe for Buttermilk Sherbet? It also has the most wonderful recipe for Russian Spiced Tea.
Copyrighted in 1887, The White House Cook Book is really showing its age, but it is quite a gem. No ordinary cookbook, it includes Cooking, Toilet and Household Recipes, Menus, Dinner-Giving, Table Etiquette, Care of the Sick, Health Suggestions, and the most unique section of Facts Worth Knowing.
Instructions on how To Wash Feathers and how to render Incombustible Dresses are sure to come in handy, even for the First Lady.
We are most grateful to Mrs. Judy N. of Key West, Florida for allowing us to display this book.
We cannot imagine a more touching tribute between mother and son. Copyrighted in 1977, My Mother Cooked My Way Through Harvard With These Creole Recipes has an introduction by Oscar Roberts in which he tells tales of his mother's food being delivered to his college dorm by Parcel Post and, like all Southern women, bringing food along for every visit. Yambilee Cake, Stuffed Mirliton, Eggplant Casserole, Shrimp Jambalaya and Crayfish Bisque...this book has all the mainstays a Louisiana or Mississippi native grew up on.
From deep in the heart of Dixie, the Junior League of Jackson, Mississippi has put together quite a volume in Southern Sideboards. An introduction by Wyatt Cooper entitled Of Food and Fellowship speaks to the wonderful diversity of the South and the breadth of its hospitality.
Tomatoes Stuffed with Spinach Rockefeller, Artichokes Willie, Red Snapper Court Bouillon, Pyracantha Jelly and Pecan Pralines... and they didn't stop there! Rainy days and Special Days is full of activities which include children, like Snow Ice Cream and "Look-In" Easter Eggs.
